U2 tour 2005

2005 is the year that U2 will embark on a new world tour.

Tickets for U2’s UK concerts have completely sold out as soon as they were released. Tickets for the dates went on sale to the general public at 9am. 260,000 were sold almost immediately, and led to the addition of a second show in London.

Tickets for the dates went on pre-sale via the U2.com website earlier this week, leading to complaints about the service. Ticketmaster eventually apologised, blaming "an incredibly high level of demand".

The band kick off their Vertigo 2005 world tour in San Diego on March 28 and, following 13 North American shows, begin the European leg of their tour in Brussels on June 10.

U2's five British and Irish dates start at the City of Manchester Stadium on June 14.

U2 Apology about ticket problems

A few weeks ago U2 won Grammys for rock song, short-form video, and rock performance for the mega-hit "Vertigo." The band performed the song "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own," a tribute to front man Bono's father, who died a few years ago. The band's guitarist, the Edge, dedicated the latter award to his young daughter, Sian, who is reportedly suffering from leukemia, although the band had not commented on whether his daughter is indeed suffering from leucemia. In a rare turn at the microphone, drummer Larry Mullen Jr. apologized to fans for the recent snafu where many fan club members were unable to buy tickets for the concerts, which quickly sold out.
